The Youth Red Cross (YRC) of the Indian Red Cross Society-Odisha State Branch (IRCS-OSB) organized a cleanliness drive on the occasion of Kartika Purnima (Boita Bandana) at Bindu Sagar tank in Bhubaneswar as well as Indradyumna and Markandeya tanks in Puri today.
The objective of the programme was to establish the values of environmental protection among the young minds of YRC volunteers and the local inhabitants as well as spreading the message of keeping the rivers and other water bodies clean.
More than 100 YRC volunteers of Droupadi College of Science and Commerce along with the counseller, Institute of Media Studies and staff of Odisha Red Cross cleaned the Bindu Sagar, Bhubaneswar while more than 150 YRC volunteers and Counsellors of SCS College, Suraj Mal Saha College, Govt Women’s College, Xavier College, DAV School, Sarada Vihar High School, Samagarha cleaned the Indradyumna and Markandeya tanks at Puri.
The programme was undertaken under the supervision of Geetanjali Panda and Ramakant Kar.
Dr Debadatta Satpathy, YRC officer, Govinda Chandra Mahunta, honorary joint secretary, IRCS, OSB coordinated the programme at Puri while Apramita Mishra, under secretary, IRCS, OSB coordinated the programme at Bhubaneswar.
Such initiatives of the Red Cross, Odisha will not only inspire the young volunteers of YRC, but also create awareness for a clean and safe environment among the public, said Dr Chakradhar Panda, Honorary Secretary, IRCS-OSB and secretary, YRC, said.
