Jajpur, Mar 20: A youth Deepak Kumar Nayak (26) of Nuasunguda village was shot dead by four unidentified assailants at Chandikhole on Thursday evening, police said.
Four unidentified bike borne miscreants fired at Deepak at around 8 pm from close range while he was having a chat with friends after attending a party function near Biju Janata Dal (BJD) office, police said.
Police said locals who chased the attackers managed to nab two of them along with their bike. Later, they were handed over to the police.
However, the other two managed to escape, police added.
Deepak who had received gun shots in his head and chest succumbed on his way to the local hospital where doctors declared him brought dead, police said.
Two of the attackers who were nabbed by the locals have been arrested and their bike seized.
Investigations are on and they have not yet been identified.
While it was not yet clear if the deceased had any links with the ruling BJD, police suspects old rivalry to be the reason behind the murder.
