Rourkela, June 8:
A youth of Tankatola village in Odisha’s Sundargarh district was arrested today for killing a couple last night suspecting them of practising sorcery.
The accused, identified as Raju Panna (25), was forwarded to court which remanded him judicial custody after rejecting his bail plea.
Talking to OST, U Pradhan, IIC of Brahmani Tarang Police Station, the accused, during interrogation, said he had suspected Kalia Panna (70) and his wife Punia (65) of practising sorcery and against him for which he was suffering from frequent fever.
As per the plan, the accused entered into the house of the couple at around 7 pm on Sunday and hacked the couple to death with an axe while they were sleeping on the varandah of their house.
After committing the crime, the accused fled the area.
Later, the neighbours found the bodies lying in a pool of blood and informed the police who rushed to the spot and took the bodies for post mortem.
Police later arrested Raju and seized the axe from his house.
