Bhubaneswar, July 11:
Commissionerate Police today arrested a 25-year-old youth from a college hostel in the Odisha capital for his alleged role in raping a 16-year-old girl he had befriended during an accidental telephonic conservation.
The accused was identified as Milu Nayak hailing from Kandhamal and a graduate from a well known college of the city.
Acting on the complaint filed by the father of the minor victim, Mahila police apprehended the Nayak and conducted a medical examination on him at Capital hospital here.
Police sources said Nayak, a native of Belghar in Kandhamal district, had developed a love relationship with the minor girl of Rayagada district following an accidental conversation over mobile phone. “During the telephonic conversations between Nayak and the minor which extended over two weeks, the youth proposed to her and managed to win her confidence,” said a police officer.
He later persuaded the girl to visit Bhubaneswar with him.
On July 9 mornings, Nayak came to the city along with the minor as per a well laid out plan to cheat her.
During their stay in the city, Nayak had taken the girl to shopping malls and tourist places including Dhauligiri. Later in the evening, the accused took her to an abandoned place near Tankapani Road and allegedly raped her, police informed.
After committing the crime, the accused asked the girl to return to her native place and left her alone at the Baramunda bus stand on Wednesday night. The victim, however, called her parents who reached the city the next day and rescued her from the bus terminal.
The police arrested the youth from his hostel room in the college from where he had just completed his graduation.
