Odisha police on Monday arrested a youth on charges of rape and attempt to murder of a disabled young woman.


The arrested has been identified as Prasana Nayak alias Tulu of Keshpur village under Banapur police limits in Khurda district.

According to police, Tula was in a relationship with a disabled girl for last five years and had developed physical relation with her on the pretext of marriage.

The victim used to ask the accused to marry her after the affair went public. On Sunday evening she stood firm demanding their marriage over telephone warning to commit suicide.

In reply, Tulu promised to marry her on Monday morning at a temple citing his family members will not accept the marriage.

The victim reached at the scheduled place but Tulu did not following which she met his family members taking the issue but was thrashed in return.

Later, she was picked up to a lonely place by Tulu’s two brothers where they attempted to kill her pressing her neck.

Fortunately, some women reached the spot and the miscreants fled away. Victim’s family members rushed to the spot and registered a case at Banapur police station after rescuing her.

Banapur police station IIC Kiran Hembram informed that a case (no 300/16) was registered and investigations were on.

“Tulu will be forwarded to court after medical examinations of the duo on Tuesday,” the IIC said.
