Bhubaneswar, Dec 23:
Tension prevailed at Pandara square here on Monday after a young man was killed in a road accident.
The deceased was identified as Rashmi Ranjan Mallick (25), a salesman who belonged to GGP Postal Colony under Mancheswar police limits.
The tragic incident occurred while Mallick was walking towards his residence. A Tata Magic vehicle loaded with tent house stuff hit him from the rear.
Mallick who was badly hurt was rushed to the Capital Hospital with the help of local people but was declared dead by the doctors.
Angry local people along with Mallick’s family members blocked the Pandara square by burning tyres for two hours disrupting traffic. They demanded immediate preventive measures like humps, deployment of traffic constables to check accidents near this accident-prone spot.
Five accidents had occurred at the same place within a month but the city administration and police personnel have failed to tackle the problems, a local resident said.
Assistant Commissioner of Police (Traffic) Binod Das along with local IIC reached the spot and brought the situation under control by assuring the people that their demands will be met.
Meanwhile, the Mancheswar police have registered a case in this regard.
