Bhubaneswar, Apr 17:
X-cycles are the in-thing now at the Xavier Institute of Management Bhubaneswar (XIMB) in Odisha- thanks to X-SEED, the Idea and Initiative Cell of the business school which came up with this concept aimed at providing low cost, healthy and convenient mode of transport for the XIMB community and that includes all- the students, the faculty and the staff.
Here students can hire bicycles at a nominal rate of Rs. 8 per hour to travel within and outside the sprawling campus as part of their daily requirements. The X-cycles have come in handy and provided an easy solution to the conveyance problems faced by the XIMB students.
X-Cycles offer the students a ‘bindaas’ feeling and the much needed break from their hectic schedules. They don’t have to spend hours at the gym to burn the fat and the carbs, the X-cycles are there to keep them fit and healthy.
“I go out to distant markets and other places on the X-cycle. Public transport in Bhubaneswar is fairly good, but if one has to travel to specific shops or markets, it’s a choice between switching several cheap, shared auto-rickshaws or taking one expensive ride directly to the destination. But I find the cycle to be a much better option. It keeps me free from the hassles of finding public transport and also allows me the privilege of enjoyng fresh evening air which is there in plenty in this city,” Risheek Raizada, a student of the 2013-15 batch pursuing Business Management at XIMB said.
Cycle transport also contributes to a cleaner and greener environment in its own enjoyable way while reducing all forms of pollution including noise.
The initiative has found a place on TATA First Dot, a platform that mentors and showcases student start-ups.
The X-cycle service is open to the entire 900-strong XIMB community.
There are currently 7 cycles for hire at the campus -available for Rs. 8 an hour. One is required to deposit an initial amount of Rs. 200 as advance payment to become a member of the X-cycle Club and use the facility. The maintenance and repair of the bicycles are taken care of by Team X-SEED.
