World Humanitarian Day at XIMB

The Social Responsibility Cell (SRC) of Xavier Institute of Management, Bhubaneswar (XIMB), in association with the Institute of Social Work & Research, celebrated World Humanitarian Day at the XIMB campus here on Monday.

The program started with the visit of a few children from a nearby school. The visually challenged students laughed, talked and chatted merrily with the assembled faculty members and students. They participated in Reading, Writing and Quiz competitions and enjoyed their day thoroughly.

The inauguration ceremony started with the lighting of the candles followed by the speech of the Dean Academics, Biswa Swarup Mishra who said that managers not only need to be pragmatic but also compassionate.

The event was graced by the presence of Dean-Student Affairs, Dean Administration-Fr. Augustine and other faculty members followed by a motivating and passionate speech from the Guest of Honor – Sanyas Kumar Behera, General Secretary of the Institute of Social Work and Research. Behera, who is also visually challenged, spoke like a true leader and his speech was enough to raise the spirit of the fellow XIMB-ians. Former international cricket player Zafar Iqbal was among the dignitaries present on the occasion.

This was followed by a small cultural program where Sanjay Kumar Sahoo and Raj Kishore put up a wonderful performance by singing and playing Tabla respectively. Mayank, Dhrubo the members of the SRC joined Raj Kishore and Sushant Kumar Padhee to put up a short cultural program on this eventful day.

RK Sharma, Assistant Director Vocational Rehabilitation Centre for Handicap who was the chief guest on the occasion thanked XIMB and the Institute of Social work & Research for the inclusion program. His speech was full of energy and subtleness. His request was straightforward to the future managers of XIMB. “Please try to include and recruit differently abled persons on your team,” he urged the hosts.
