Bhubaneswar, Dec 4:
A state-of-the-art multi-storied, multi-purpose tower would come up in the state capital here by 2017, said official sources.
The proposed high-rise complex, to be named as Ekamra Tower, would come up inside an area which is now part of the Odisha Khadi and Village Industries Board (OKVIB) premises near Hotel Marrion along the Janpath.
The project, approved by the state government, would be a joint venture between the OKVIB and Industrial Development Corporation of Odisha (IDCO) with an estimated cost involvement of Rs 169.54 crore apart from the cost of the land to be around Rs 5.69 crore.
Kolkata-based M/S ABIN Design has been selected as the consultant of the project.
Reviewing the progress of the project at a high level meeting at the State Secretariat here on Wednesday, chief secretary JK Mohapatra directed the concerned authorities to complete the bidding and contract award process by January next year.
He also directed to IDCO authorities to make appropriate planning and arrangements for safety, security and maintenance of the building.
The total construction area of the building would be 6,62,000 sq ft. The proposed building will have a single basement, a ground floor and 23 floors with a helipad on the roof top. It will provide office space shopping malls, interactive sessions, art shows etc.
It was revealed at the meeting that the state government, so far, has received applications from five reputed companies for execution of the project work.
The chief secretary directed the authorities to expedite the process and complete the award of contract by January next year.
He also asked special secretary, General Administration to work out the terms and conditions of the built-up space transaction and maintenance of the building in consultation with the Khadi Board and IDCO.
