The higher education sector in Odisha is likely to be funded by the World Bank, sources said here today.
World Bank representative Kurt Larsen on Tuesday told media persons here that World Bank is interested in financing the higher education sector, particularly to help improve the gross enrolment ratio (GER) in the state.
Larsen, however, said the decision will be taken after the bank’s officials hold detailed discussions with the Odisha government during their visit to the state shortly.
World Bank consultant Soumi Saha informed that a formal meeting of the bank’s officials and the state government in this regard is scheduled sometime in July.
The state government has proposed to hold an international seminar on the higher education policy in Bhubaneswar in July, in which the World Bank officials are expected to participate.
It may be mentioned here that the World Bank has already financed one million dollar in India towards the development of higher education sector in various states.
