A woman’s hand was crushed under the wheels of a bus on the Nabakalebara road in Odisha’s holy city Puri today.
The mishap occurred when a couple travelling on a scooter was hit by a bus as a consequence of which the woman identified as Sarada Rath who was pillion riding with her husband (Suryanarayan Rath) fell off the scooter and the bus ran over her hand, reports said. They are residents of Madhuban area in Puri town.
While Sarada was first admitted to the district headquarters hospital here initially, she was later shifted to the SCB Medical College and Hospital at Cuttack as her condition deteriorated, the reports added.
Following the accident tension mounted in the area as irate locals damaged the accident causing bus and blocked the road.
The situation was brought under control after police arrived at the spot and succeeded in persuading locals to vacate the road blockade. One-way traffic has been put in place to ease traffic problem on the road.
