Woman thrashed for selling liquor in Odisha’s Kendrapara

Kendrapara: A woman was today thrashed by some women activists with her hands being tied at Gagua Chhak in Odisha’s Kendrapara district for allegedly selling liquor illegally.

The women also tried to manhandle policemen who reached the spot to rescue her.

A road blockade was staged on Cuttack-Chandbali road by burning tyres protesting the liquor sale.

The women have alleged that though they had informed the local administration about the incident, some corrupted officials of Excise department, being associated with the illegal liquor sellers, were not paying any heed to their complaints.

They had also reportedly apprised the additional district Collector about it three days ago following which the official had directed the Excise staff to raid Gangapada village, the place from where the woman liquor seller hails.

However, the complainants took the extreme step today as no raids were conducted later, they alleged.
