A judicial magistrate in Western Odisha town of Sambalpur died on Wednesday night allegedly due to medical negligence at a private nursing home after delivering a baby.
Judicial Magistrate First Class (JFMC) Sambalpur– Champabati Hati– died at a private nursing home in Budharaja area here almost three hours after giving birth to her baby.
Her husband Amulya Hati has lodged a complaint at the Ainthapalli police station on Wednesday alleging negligence in treatment by the nursing home authorities which led to his wife’s death.
“My wife underwent caesarean section and gave birth to our child. Minutes later, the doctors informed us that both the mother and baby were doing well. But, an hour later they asked to me arrange blood. Again they came to me and pressed me to get blood immediately. Later, the nursing home officials told me in the evening that my wife was dead,” said Amulya.
Champabati who was in the final stages of her pregnancy was admitted to a private nursing home for delivery on Wednesday afternoon. Champabati delivered a healthy baby in the afternoon but later died late in the evening allegedly due to neglect in post delivery treatment, reports said.
While police have begun investigations into the allegation, the body was handed over to the family after conducting autopsy today.
However, authorities of the private nursing home were not available for comments.
Meanwhile, the District Lawyers’ Association has come out in support of the deceased and demanded for the cancellation of the registration of the nursing home.
“A delegation of the Sambalpur District Lawyers’ Association would meet DMET demanding cancellation of registration of nursing homes who do not have adequate infrastructure,” President District Lawyers’s Association Pramod Das said.
