Bhubaneswar, Apr 4:
Two persons, including a woman, have been detained in connection with the gang rape of a woman in a city slum. The arrested, identified as Kanchan Patra and Amitabh Satpathy, were arrested form Tarini Sahi basti and Vani Vihar railway station here, police sources said.
The woman was allegedly gang raped after being drugged by Kanchan’s husband and his friend Amitabh in a slum under Mancheswar police limits today. Kanchan’s husband, however, was still at large.
Kanchan Patra allegedly facilitated the gang rape by her husband and his friend Amitabh by drugging the victim who was her tenant, police sources said.
The sources said the victim, a 19-year old woman of Delang in Puri district, had come to Bhubaneswar a few days ago with her husband and rented a room from Kanchan at Tarini slum here.
The matter came to light this evening after the victim’s husband Babun Mati (24), a driver by profession, lodged a complaint with Mahila police station in this connection. He was away on work when the incident happened.
Mati said he rushed home suspecting that something bad had happened to his wife when she did not receive his phone calls. “When I reached home, I fell unconscious on seeing the two persons committing the crime. Alerted by my arrival, the two fled from the spot,” added Mati.
“With the help of locals, I took my wife to the Capital Hospital here for treatment. I have registered a case at the Mahila police station this evening,” the victim’s husband said.
