Woman dies due to alleged medical negligence in Odisha

Alleged delay in the arrival of ‘102 ambulance’ and non-availability of proper medical care led to the death of a woman in a village in Odisha’s Dhenkanal district.

Woman bleeds to death

The deceased woman has been identified as Ranjita Mallick, wife of Bipin Mallick of Anantpur village under Bhuban block.

Ranjita’s family members had called up ‘102 ambulance’ as she developed labour pain at about 1 AM today.

As the ambulance failed to reach they took her in an auto-rickshaw to Bhuban government hospital.

Since no treatment was available to her at Bhuban government hospital she was taken to the hospital at Mathkargola where she delivered a baby girl.

After delivering the child her condition turned critical following which she was rushed to Kamakshyanagar hospital and finally to the district headquarters hospital at Dhenkanal.

However, she died due to profuse bleeding in the morning today.

Ranjita’s family members have filed a complaint with the police alleging medical negligence to have caused her death.

Police after conducting inquest have sent Ranjita’s body for post-mortem and is investigating the matter.
