A woman police officer in Odisha has been booked under Section 392 (Robbery) of the IPC for allegedly looting a man while she was deployed on poll duty in Jagatsinghpur district .
The accused woman sub inspector who is from the Government Railway Police (GRP) department was deployed at Balikuda area of the district on poll duty when the incident happened, sources said.
The complainant has alleged that the lady cop, who was on patrolling duty, intercepted him on the road and snatched away Rs 12,500 from his purse. The lady cop also threatened him with serious consequences if he dares make it public, he said.
Following the filing of the complaint, Jagatsinghpur district police registered a case under section 392 Indian penal code (robbery) against the accused woman police officer.
Jagatsinghpur Superintendent of Police Satyabrata Bhoi said, “A case has been registered against the accused officer. A two-member inquiring committee is probing the matter. Law would take its due course if the probe findings substantiate the charge levelled against the SI”.
