A woman from the upper echelon of the society was arrested and forwarded to court today on charges of stealing fish from a fish vendor at the Unit IV fish market in the Odisha capital.
The woman allegedly did not pay the fish seller her due after purchasing fish from her. Kharavela Nagar police has registered a case against her under sections 341, 324, 294, 506 and 406 of the IPC while forwarding to court.
This woman who often appears on television talk shows came to the Unit IV fish market in a luxury car to buy fish.
However, she was caught by the fish sellers while she was trying to move away without paying the seller her due.
The aggrieved fish seller and several fellow fish sellers gheraoed the woman’s vehicle for quite some time and called the police.
Reports said the woman claimed herself to be a media representative to some while claimed to be relative of a top police official to others and tried to threaten the fish sellers.
The woman was taken to the Kharavela Nagar police station by the police from the spot. Following a written complaint from the fish seller, the woman was arrested and forwarded to court.
Fish sellers told the media that the woman had on several occasions cheated the fish sellers of their due by claiming that the fish was rotten. However, she was caught in her act today, they said.
