The winter session of the Odisha Assembly began today with uproarious scenes as Opposition members created ruckus forcing the Speaker to adjourn the House till 3 PM.


As the House assembled for the session, Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik moved a condolence motion recalling departed leaders and defence personnel. The House observed an one-minute silent prayer for the departed souls.

Later, Leader of Opposition Narasingha Mishra requested Speaker Niranjan Pujari to cancel the Question Hour and hold discussions over the deaths of children due to Japanese Encephalitis in Malkangiri district.

After the Speaker rejected the request and asked to continue the Question Hour, Congress members rushed to the well of the House and created ruckus.

Congress Chief Whip Tara Prasad Bahinipati stood on the reporters’ table and tried to snatch the Speaker’s microphone.

Unable to run the House, Speaker Pujari adjourned the Assembly till 3 PM.

Noisy scenes prevailed when the House reassembled at 3 PM as Bahinipati stood firm demanding a motion on Japanese Encephalitis following which the Speaker adjourned the House for 30 minutes and called an all-party meeting for smooth conduction of proceedings.
