Western Odisha continues to boil under intense heat wave

Bhubaneswar: The heat wave continued to roast most parts of Odisha, especially the Western part of the state even as the Weather Department has predicted the south-west monsoon will arrive in the state next week.

Today, as many as eleven places in the state recorded the maximum day temperature above 40 degree Celsius.

Hirakud was the hottest place in the state today witnessing temperature of 44.8 degree Celsius.

Sambalpur, which was the hottest place yesterday recorded a marginal fall in temperature and witnessed 44.6 degree Celsius.

Titlagarh sizzled at 43.6 degree Celsius, Jharsuguda (43.2), Balangir (42.5), Sonepur (41.8), Angul (41.1), Talcher (40.5), Phulbani (40.4) and Sundergarh (40).

The state capital Bhubaneswar recorded 37.8 degree Celsius while 37.4 at neighbouring Cuttack.

The coastal Odisha towns, however, recorded a significant fall in the maximum day temperature. Balasore (36.1), Paradip (33.3), Gopalpur (33), Puri (33.3).

Meanwhile, the Met office has issued rainfall and thunderstorm warnings for eleven districts till 8 pm.
