Water level rises in Odisha’s Hirakud reservoir

Burla, Oct 15:

Water level of the Hirakud reservoir at Burla in Odisha’s Sambalpur district has gone up following heavy rains in the upper catchments of Mahanadi in Chhattisgarh in the last 24 hours.

Rainfall recorded in the upper catchments of the dam since last 24 hours till 8 AM on Tuesday was 36.84 mm.

Superintending engineer of Hirakud dam Rabindra Kumar Panda said water level of the reservoir which stood at 624.83 feet by 9 PM on Sunday night, has gone up to 624.97 feet by 6 PM on Tuesday.

He said that water level of the dam is expected to touch the optimum level of 630 feet by October 20.
