Bhubaneswar, Dec 22:
Odisha Cricket Association (OCA) authorities have decided to prohibit water bottles and pouches inside Barabati stadium during matches. The decision was taken today in a meeting between the OCA authorities and the Commissionerate Police.
“We discussed about the steps that can be taken to avoid a situation like the bottle pelting incident that happened before. A decision was taken to facilitate drinking water in each gallery by OCA authorities and prohibit water bottles and pouches inside the stadium,” said Police Commissioner Rajendra Sharma speaking to reporters after the meeting.
“We would set up CCTVs everywhere. Had there been CCTVs, we could have prosecuted the offenders last time. We are going to install them and take other preventive measures two months before the next international match. The procedures would remain the same for all international matches,” said OCA Secretary Ashirbad Behera.
Apart from CCTV and bottle ban, the wire fencing between the gallery and field would be heightened to ensure that nothing gets into the playing area even if flung from the gallery. All the seats would also be numbered and the seat number would be marked on the ticket to keep a track on the movement of the spectators.
Notably, the decisions have been taken based on a report submitted by the Principal Secretary of Home Department to the State Government after the October 5 bottle pelting incident at the stadium. Odisha Cricket Association (OCA) had been asked to take corrective measures based on the report so that such incidents don’t repeat again.
