Gajapati: Teachers and students of Mahendragiri Municipal High School at Paralakhemundi in Odisha’s Gajapati were yesterday amazed to see the District Collector turning up to the school and taking a geography class.
As a part of the ‘Teach Gajapati’ campaign, Collector Anupam Saha visited the school around 10.30 am surprising everyone present inside the campus. He was accompanied by District Education Officer Sanjeev Kumar Singh.
The official took a geography class for standard-IX students and asked a few questions to them over the subject during the period.
However, Saha expressed displeasure over absence of a majority of the students in the class as 27 out of 60 students were present.
“Under the ‘Mo School’ campaign of the Odisha government, we have started an initiative called ‘Teach Gajapati’. Anybody interested in imparting education as per their qualifications are welcome to take classes as per requirements,” the collector said speaking to reporters.
“The students responded well during the geography class which I took. They also completed the tasks given by me during the period. It is a very positive sign. They can excel if groomed and encouraged properly,” he said.
