Cuttack, Oct 3:
With growing incidents of drowning in Mahanadi river, the district administration has decided to set up warning signages along the river bed cautioning people to prevent mishaps.
The District Collector convened a meeting with civil society groups this afternoon where it decided to take preventive measures in the backdrop of watery mishaps.
District Collector Nirmal Chandra Mishra said: “The district administration has decided to install four warning signages and four feet rope barricades at Gadagadia, Chahata, Debigada and Jobra Barrage. Besides, two volunteers equipped with life jackets, tubes, ropes and megaphones would be deployed. The decision would be implemented in a week’s time.”
It may be recalled here that two youth had drowned at the Gadagadia Ghat yesterday while they were immersing ghata for ‘Sola Puamaa’ in the swollen river.
Earlier in April last year, the district administration had taken similar decision to put up boards at Jobra Barrage after three Ravenshaw varsity students met watery grave.
