Days after threatening people to boycott the upcoming panchayat polls in Odisha, Maoists killed a ward member candidate of Bara village under Mathili police limits in Malkangiri district late last night.
The deceased has been identified as Dasu Dharua.
According to reports, 18-20 armed Maoists of Darbha Division of the banned outfit called Dharua out of his house last night.
He was later shot dead by the red rebels.
Notably, Maoists, through posters, had earlier threatened people in the district to abstain from the rural polls or face dire consequences.
The ultras had warned that those who will contest in the elections would face death punishment at praja court.
Similarly, the extremists had further warned that thumbs of those casting their votes would be chopped off.
