Voting begins amid EVM mismanagement

Polling for 11 Lok Sabha and 77 Assembly constituencies in Odisha began this morning amid reports of malfunctioning of EVMs at a number of places.Voters registering their names before casting their votes at a polling booth of Puri Zilla School, Puri in Orissa during the 2nd Phase of General Election-2009 on April 23, 2009.

The maximum number of EVM malfunctioning has been reported from Jajpur district. There have been similar problems in Athagarh and Basta as well.

Taking full advantage of the 17th death anniversary of Biju Patnaik today, the ruling BJD- which has been named after him and has been thriving on the great Odia hero’s legacy- has released full page advertisements in all major Odisha newspapers in his memory, apparently to influence voters  on the polling day.

This advertisement, however, has had the approval of the CEO’s office, sources said.
