A staff of the education department was today arrested in Odisha’s Pilgrim Town here for allegedly accepting bribe.



According to sources, the accused identified as Prasanna Kumar Nayak was arrested while accepting a bribe of Rs 5000 from a teacher for incorporating their service details in management system.

Nayak works as Statistical Assistant in the office of District Education Office here.

On behalf of contractual teachers of the district, the complainant Nirod Rath urged the accused to incorporate their service particulars in Human Resource Management System (HRMS) to facilitate electronic transfer of their salaries. However, Nayak demanded Rs 5000 from the complainant for the said purpose.

Acting of the complaint, the sleuths laid a trap this afternoon and caught the accused red-handed while accepting the bribe.

The hand wash of the accused was taken in sodium carbonate solution which confirmed acceptance of bribe money.

Notably, the complainant is a teacher at Kasateswar UG High School and is also the President of Puri Contractual Teachers Association.

A case under section 7 of Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988 was registered and the accused was forwarded to court today.
