Bhubaneswar, Dec 27:

National Students’ Union of India (NSUI) state unit president Itish Pradhan and proprietor of Pradip Pandey appeared before the Capital police here today to record their statements under Section 161 of the CrPC in connection with the controversial video uploaded in the website which has alleged links with the murder of engineering student Asutosh Mohanty alias Rishi.

However, their statements couldn’t be recorded due to the absence of the investigating officer (IO).

The two will be summoned again on a different date for recording of their statements, sources said.

“We came to the police station for the second time but the concerned official remained absent. A conspiracy is going on to suppress the case. I reiterate my demand for a CBI probe into the matter,” Pradhan said.

Expressing resentment over the investigation, Pradhan said, “The video should undergo a forensic test at Central Forensic Laboratory for the truth to come out. My statement should be recorded at court under Section 164 of CrPC.”

“Those featuring in the video should be identified. Rishi’s female friend and others should be brought under the purview of investigation. I came to police station with strong evidence, but the IO was absent,” Pandey said.

Notably, Pradhan and Pandey had earlier appeared before Capital police on December 20.

Pradhan had arrived at the police station after being discharged from Capital Hospital as he was admitted to the medical due to injuries which he had sustained during a clash between Congress activists and policemen at Rajmahal Square here on that day. However, his statement couldn’t be recorded as police had let him go on health grounds.

Similarly, Pandey had deposed before the police and was provided with a copy of the FIR which was lodged by city Mayor Ananta Narayan Jena against him and Pradhan at Capital police station for maligning his reputation through the video.
