Bhubaneswar: Eminent freedom fighter and social activist Baidehi Panda passed away today at a private hospital in Odisha capital while undergoing treatment.
The veteran Sarvodaya leader and close aide of Acharya Vinoba Bhave was admitted to the hospital due to protracted illness.
The 87-year-old born in Katasahi village in Bhadrak district joined the freedom struggle at the tender age of 12. She worked with Rama Devi as her assistant. During Vinoba Bhave’s Odisha visit, Panda toured with the former as his pilot.
She played an active role in Bhoodaan movement in the state.
As she had pledged her body, the corpse would be donated to SCB Medical College and Hospital, sources said.
Several political leaders and Gandhians mourned the demise of Panda.
