Bhubaneswar, Dec 27:
As if the unceremonious shunting out of Director, Intelligence Abhay Kumar was not enough, a vengeful state government on Friday suspended Assistant Sub Inspector (ASI) Prafulla Kumar Rana of Capital Police Station and also sought action against Traffic inspector-in-charge (IIC) Ranjan Mallick for their alleged failure to prevent activists of Navnirman Krushak Sangathan (NKS) from blocking Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik’s path on Tuesday.
Rana was suspended as per the directive of the Home department, which is headed by the Chief Minister himself, Commissionerate police sources told OST. It was done on the basis of the findings of an inquiry conducted by DCP Nitinjeet Singh into this breach of the Chief Minister’s security as per the directions of commissioner RP Sharma, the sources said.
In a related move, the commissionerate also wrote to the police headquarters today making a case for a departmental inquiry against Traffic IIC Ranjan Mallick.
In a measure that smacked of arrogance and utterly devoid of reason, the commisonerate police have slapped charges of attempt to murder and rioting against the 26 NKS activists, who blocked the CM’s way as he was about the enter the state secretariat on Tuesday.
