Bhubaneswar, Nov 4:

Expressing grave concern over the modus operandi of the ruling BJD government in Odisha and alleging that it is trying its best to scuttle the CBI investigation into the mega chit fund scam, the Utkal Bharat has sought early intervention of the Supreme Court in the matter.

Bringing to the notice of the apex court, former MP and president of Utkal Bharat, Kharabela Swain, in a letter to the Chief Justice of India HL Dattu on Monday said hundreds of ruling party supporters had gathered in front of the CBI office in Bhubaneswar on November 1 and blocked the vehicle which was carrying senior BJD leader and former government chief whip Pravat Tripathy to the court to seek his remand for interrogation on his alleged links with the chit fund company, Artha Tatwa Group.

While the irate BJD supporters raised abusive slogans against the CBI, they also threatened a CBI inspector with dire consequences. Apprehending trouble, the CBI officials were forced to lock the gate and office from inside and had to defer Tripathy’s production in the court by several hours, Swain said.

Questioning the role of the Odisha Police, who were deployed at the place of occurrence and had stood like mute spectators, he said the state police have not arrested a single protestor after three days of the incident.

“This proves that the state government has taken all possible measures to block the independent investigation by the CBI in the chit fund scam”, he added.

He prayed the Chief Justice to personally monitor the chit fund scam investigation by the CBI to deliver justice to the poor and duped depositors.
