Bhubaneswar, Oct 16:
Utkal Bharat president Kharavela Swain today demanded to conduct the hearing of chit fund scam related cases outside Odisha and under the supervision of Supreme Court as many influential persons including politicians are involved in the scam.
“As many influential persons including politicians, judges and bureaucrats are involved in the chit fund scam, an impartial probe in Odisha is not possible. CBI is also facing pressure. So, the hearing of the chit fund scam cases should be held outside Odisha as in the case of former Tamilnadu chief minister Jayalalithaa. The Supreme Court should also supervise the CBI inquiry,” said Swain at a press conference here.
He said the sale of house allocated under discretionary quota in Cuttack to former justice of Odisha High Court and present Chief Justice of Manipur High Court Laxmikant Mohapatra was illegal.
Mohapatra had sold the house to Artha Tatwa Group chief Pradeep Sethy and it was purchased by former Advocate General Ashok Mohanty. “Mohapatra instead of selling the house only handed over it through affidavit, which is illegal,” said Swain.
He also said that the former AG, who purchased the house from Sethy, did not go for the registration of the house and the house was handed over to him also through an affidavit.
It is to be noted that Swain had earlier sent a petition to the Chief Justice of India alleging that the Odisha High Court, state Bar Council and High Court Bar Association had gone out of their to help the former AG Ashok Mohanty, who was arrested for his alleged link with Sethy recently, secure bail.
