Cuttack, Dec 28:
Tension ran high at the council meeting of the Cuttack Municipal Corporation (CMC) here when opposition corporators created ruckus over Mayor’s name finding place in the beneficiary list under National Food Security Act (NFSA).
The opposition members created ruckus during the meeting over Mayor Anita Behera’s inclusion in the beneficiary list.
Following the pandemonium, the Mayor feigned ignorance and expressed her displeasure over her name finding mention in the list.
“I am unaware of inclusion of my name in the beneficiary list. I disapprove of this. My family members would have erroneously done this,” CMC Mayor, Anita Behera said.
The opposition member, however, demanded an inquiry into the incident and strict action against her.
Meanwhile, the CMC Commissioner has announced a probe into the incident where a three-member team would probe into the allegations.
It may be recalled that similar scenes were witnessed during council meeting on October 31. The ruling Biju Janata Dal (BJD) and Congress corporators were engaged in a bitter fight over discrepancies in the distribution of ration cards.
Amid sloganeering, glasses were hurled, desks overturned and furniture broken inside the room.
The opposition members alleged that the real beneficiaries were excluded and many well-to-do people owning allegiance to the ruling party were included in the list of ration cards for subsidised food grains.
