Bhubaneswar, Dec 3:
Stating that the multi-crore chit fund scam had taken place under the very nose of Naveen Patnaik-led state government, Chairman of the newly flouted political outfit Ama Odisha and former MP of Bhubaneswar Soumya Ranjan Patnaik today demanded that the persons involved in duping the investors be identified and the money returned to the depositors immediately.
“Investors have been duped by chit fund companies and the scam has taken place under the patronage of some politicians including MLAs and Ministers. They have defrauded us. We have to find out who exactly benefited from the swindled money. We know that the government will not do this. So, we have to trace out the beneficiaries, including politicians,” said Patnaik participating at a protest rally of chit fund investors near the state Assembly here.
The protestors, under the banner of Arthika Sansthamanaka Dwara Kshyatigrastanka Milita Manch, Odisha, also gheraoed the state Assembly, which is in session.
Taking a dig at the government for its inability to recover the duped fund amassed by the companies, Patnaik exhorted the 50 lakh investors to act in unison against various acts of omission and commission of the government.
“We have to be united to reach our goal and the time has come to nail the government. As they say; ‘Strike when the iron is hot’. We have an opportunity to hit the government hard in the coming Assembly election, if it does not pay heed to our demands,” said the chairman of Ama Odisha.
The protest rally, which witnessed a huge gathering of depositors, was attended by leader of Opposition Bhupindar Singh, BJP leader Samir Mohanty and several others.
The investors have decided to stage a dharna outside the official quarters of MLAs till December 5 demanding refund of the money duped from them within 15 days. They have prepared a nine-point charter of demands that includes refund of deposited money, confiscation of movable and immovable property of chit fund companies, arrest of the proprietors and inquiry against ADG and DIG of Economic Offence Wing (EOW) of crime branch for hatching a conspiracy to help promoters of the dubious companies go scot free.
