Bhubaneswar, Nov 27:
In an effort to make autorickshaw drivers in the Twin City well-mannered and people-friendly, the Commissionerate Police on Wednesday planned to introduce uniforms for auto drivers.
“Today we held a discussion with various auto-rickshaw associations of both the cities and discussed the introduction of uniforms, special auto-rickshaws with an exclusive colour for women passengers for the convenience of both the drivers and passengers,” said twin city Commissioner of Police (CP) Dr Rajendra Prasad Sharma after presiding over a meeting with auto-rickshaw associations on Wednesday.
Sharma said more than 25,000 auto-rickshaws are running in the twin city.
Rajadhani Auto Mahasangha president Naba Mohanty said, “We are ready to adopt whatever is necessary in the better interest of passengers and police administration. But we are yet to be allotted dedicated parking lots in both the cities.”
Dr Sharma advised BMC officials to ensure that difficulties in the parking of autorickshaws at various places in the city are sorted out.
Among others, Additional Commissioner of Police Santosh Bala, DCPs of Bhubaneswar and Cuttack and BMC officials were present at the meeting.
