Nirakarpur, Feb 8:
Scores of families are awaiting succour even after two years since severe cyclonic storm Phailin hit the Odisha coast.
They are yet to receive any relief fund for the cyclone. A 75 year-old, childless and helpless woman, Bilasa of Majhisahi in Munda Amba village under Jankia panchayat in Khurda block is forced to live under a torn polythene sheet hutment.
Suffering from weak eyesight and poor hearing, Bilasa is struggling to make ends meet with her paltry Rs 300 monthly pension. Bilasa had been selected for Indra Vikas Yojana after her house was ravaged in the cyclone. However, she is yet to receive its first installment. Even after repeated appeals to BDO, assistant BDO, cashier, panchayat officer nothing has come of it.
Not only Bilasa, Kuntala Behera, Kanti Routray, Mamata Rout, Deepak Rout and their families in the Jankia panchayat who had lost their homes in Phailin cyclone are still homeless.
When asked, Sakuntala Gajdev, Jankia panchayat sarpanch replied, “I have raised the issue many a times with Khurda BDO, but he is not cooperative. I have met Panchayati Raj secretary and complained about this.”
On the other hand, Santanu Mohanty, Khurda BDO has denied the accusation and has said that he has not received any such complaint.
