Two college students were killed in a road accident in the Odisha capital today. The mishap occurred when they lost their balance and fell off the motor cycle they were riding after applying the disc brake.
The two 19-year-old students, said to have passed out from the Naidu College in the city, died on the spot in the mishap, which occurred in front of Hotel Dalma on Sachivalaya Marg in the city.
The deceased were identified as Abhisek Dangi from Ramanaguda in Rayagarh district and Suman Nayak from Jagatsinghpur district, were taking coaching classes in the city-based coaching institution, sources said.
While Abhisek was preparing for medical entrance, Suman was preparing for a hospitality course.
The deceased, travelling on an Apache motor cycle bearing registration number (OD-02-Q-0687) from Rabindra Mandap towards Acharya Vihar, fell down from the bike in front of Hotel Dalma near Red Cross Bhawan.
Eyewitnesses said they were driving fast and fell down after applying the disc brakes. While Abhisek died on the spot, Suman, who was riding pillion and had sustained serious injuries, died after another bike which was behind them dashed him, they said.
The bike which hit the students from behind also skidded off after losing balance. The riders on the second bike was a father-son duo who were returning from a hospital and going towards Rasulgarh via Acharya Vihar. The 19-year-old boy driving the bike, identified as Pabitra Das, and his father, yet to be identified, received severe injuries in the accident. Both of them were rushed to a private hospital for treatment.
Meanwhile Kharvela Nagar police have taken the deceased to the Capital hospital here for an autopsy.
