Three more die of Japanese Encephalitis; toll reaches 48 in Odisha’s Malkangiri

Malkangiri, Oct 12:

Three more children died of Japanese Encephalitis in Odisha’s Malkangiri today taking the death toll in the vector-borne disease in the district to 48 in 34 days.


The deceased were identified as Subham Nayak (4) of Durgaguda village under Mathili block, Arjun Padiami (2) of Alur village under Korakanda block and Rama Madhi (4) of Urmala village under Kalimela block. All of them died at the district headquarters hospital while undergoing treatment in the intensive care unit (ICU), sources said.

While 50 children have been discharged from the hospital after being cured, as may as 61 children are undergoing treatment. Five of them have been admitted to the ICU, sources added.

Free cooked food is being provided to ailing children and pregnant women in the affected villages of the district.
