Rayagada, Feb 15:
Two minor boys were seriously injured in gelatine blasts in Odisha’s Rayagada district on Saturday afternoon.
The boys, who are brothers, were later admitted to a private hospital in Vishakhapatnam where their condition was stated to be critical.
According to sources, Arjun Piribaka (12) and Madhabara Piribaka (13), sons of Jagabandhu Piribaka of Guakana village of Kolanara block had taken their cattle for grazing on Saturday morning.
While playing near a stone quarry, the brothers came across some unused gelatines used for blasting of stones.
As they picked them up out of curiosity, one of the gelatines suddenly went off. As a result, Arjun sustained serious injuries in his left hand and left eye while his brother had deep wounds in his two hands and head.
The two brothers were rushed to Kolanara Primary Health Centre and later admitted to district headquarters hospital. But as their condition deteriorated, they were later shifted to private hospital at Vishakhapatnam.
While police are investigating as to how these gelatines were kept in the quarry area, which is illegal in Maoist-prone areas, it was still known whether these two boys were working in the quarry.
