Two killed as truck rams into bike in Odisha capital

Tension ran high at Panchagaon Chhak in Sundarapada area under Airfield police limits in the Odisha capital after a stone laden 407 truck hit two bike-borne youths killing them on the spot and injuring three others today.

Though the deceased are yet to be identified, one of them is believed to be a mason and the other a labourer working on a project in Odisha Engineering College (OEC) on the outskirts of the city.

The truck, which was coming from laterite stone from Jatni area, collided head on with the bike on which the two youths were coming from Sundarapada.

Eyewitnesse said the driver of the truck lost his balance as a result of which the vehicle overturned and rammed into the market area after hitting the bike injuring three others.

Local people reached the spot and rushed the seriously injured persons to the Capital hospital here for treatment.

The body of the deceased was later taken to the Capital hospital for autopsy after an investigation by the police.

Angry locals blocked the Sundarapada-Jatni road for hours demanding action against the driver and compensation to the family of the deceased.

Meanwhile, Jatni tehsildar has reached the spot to try and persuade the protesters to lift the blockade.
