New Delhi, Dec 17:
The CBI has trapped two Income Tax officials, including a Joint Commissioner of Income Tax, for allegedly demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs. 5 lakh from businessman. Both the officials have been arrested by the CBI and are being quizzed.
Sources in the central agency revealed that Income Tax sleuths had raided the house of one RK Shukla, a businessman in Dhenkanal.
Subsequently, Shukla approached the CBI and informed that income tax officer Narayan Nayak had demanded a bribe of Rs 5 lakh from him for halting the inquiry against him, said the sources.
The agency then laid a trap and Nayak was arrested while he was accepting the bribe amount from Shukla.
Searches were conducted at his residence, which led the sleuths to Joint Commissioner’s doorsteps as some of the documents seized from his house indicated S. Shaivanandan’s involvement, sources added.
The CBI immediately searched the premises of the Joint Commissioner and made recoveries of documents about amassing of huge immovable assets by Shivanandan, who was arrested.
