Two held for poaching Sambhar in Odisha forest

Forest officials today arrested two persons for poaching a Sambhar (wild elk) inside a reserve forest under Buguda forest range in Odisha’s Ganjam district.

The two persons were arrested from Mahulapalli under Buguda forest range in Ganjam district, a forest official said today.

The arrested duo, identified as Rabindra Nayak and Siba Nayak, had electrocuted the Sambhar on Monday in the Kiriamba Reserve Forest, Forest range officer of Buguda PK Sahu said, adding that about 20 kg meat of the animal was seized from their possession.

He said an old horn of a barking deer and some items used to hook electric wire from the KV line were also seized from the house of Siba.

Efforts are on to arrest four others involved in the poaching, he added.
