Within 24 hours of the gruesome murder, Odisha police today arrested two accused involved in hacking veterinary surgeon Balakrushna Majhi to death at around 7.30 pm yesterday in Rourkela city.

The arrested have been identified as Arabinda Sahoo and Mohammad Sabir.

While two have been nabbed, four others are still at large and would be arrested soon, informed a police official.

One of the accused, who was apprehended from spot, said that four of them waited near the gate while Ramjan went inside the premises and knocked the door.

When the father-son duo opened the gate, Ramjan caught the deceased and we overpowered his son following which the deceased attempted to attack us and Ramjan hacked him with a chopper and his son was injured.

“Locals informed us that they captured one of the miscreants. We have arrested him after arriving at the spot. We have apprehend another accused identified as M D Sabir today,” said Biramitrapur police station IIC Manas Ranjan Deo.

We conducted surprised raids at two hideouts and trying to nab other, he added.

Notably, six unidentified men had hacked the medical professional to death in the official quarters yesterday night. In the attack, his son was also critically injured and admitted to hospital.
