Two labourers died and two others fell seriously ill due to asphyxiation while they were cleaning a well at Basudev Nagar of Khodasingh area in Odisha’s Ganjam district.
As per reports, four persons from Jagadalapur village had gone to clean the well of one Ramesh Patra after noon. However, tragedy struck at around 2 pm when two persons died due to asphyxiation and two others fell unconscious.
When the labourers did not respond to the owner, he called up the fire tenders who rushed to the spot to rescue them.
“Four persons had gone inside the well for cleaning. While two persons died due to asphyxiation, two others fell ill. We rushed to the village after getting information from the locals. We rescued the two persons and rushed them to the hospital,” an official of the local Fire Services department said.
The deceased have been identified as B Chandra Patra (56) and Somya Patra(45) of Jagadalapur, police said.
The other two labourers were admitted to the MKCG Medical College and Hospital here in a critical condition.
