Two more die of anthrax in Odisha

Anthrax has claimed two lives in a family in two days in Dangadhar village, Boiparguda block in Koraput district of Odisha.

The deceased have been identified as Nand Pujari’s wife Dalimbo (45) and daughter Babi (12).

While, four other persons suffering from anthrax in the village are in a serious condition, according to reports.

A health team had visited the area yesterday and treated two persons.

Notably, four people had died in the Jambaguda village in Rayagada in April first week due to the dreaded bacterial infection.

Anthrax is a rare disease caused by the spores of the bacterium Bacillus Anthracis. It causes enlargement of the spleen and is also known as spleen fever or ‘wool sorter’s disease’. The bacterium is transmitted from animals to the humans and is caused by eating rotten meat, according to experts.
