Malkangiri, Feb 9 :
Two CRPF jawans were killed and six others including two Odia jawans were seriously injured when a landmine planted by the Maoists went off inside the Bheji forest area in Sukma district of Chhattisgarh bordering Malkangiri on Sunday.
According to reports, a joint team of CRPF personnel and the local police were on a routine search operation inside the Bheji forest areas in the morning when the blast occurred.
Reports said, the Maoists, who had knowledge of their movements had planted a landmine on their route and triggered the blast when the security personnel moved in to the striking range.
The incident took place at about 10 am.
Following the blast, two CRPF jawan died on the spot while eight other jawans were seriously injured. However, the rest of the team fought back and forced the ultras to disperse.
The two deceased CRPF jawans have been identified as deputy commander Nihal Alam and constable Raju Rawat.
The eight seriously injured CRPF jawans have been identified as deputy commandant Ratneswar, sub inspector Hriday Verma, assistant constable Nehru Lal Kashyap and constables Pramod Malakar, Mahesh Sharma, Jitendra Behera (Odisha), Dinesh Yadav and PK Mohanty (Odisha).
They were rushed to a Primary Health Centre (PHC) at Jagdalpur from where they were later shifted to Raipur district headquarters hospital.
