Malkangiri, Jun 25:
Two cadre Maoists surrendered before the police in Odisha’s Malkangiri district today.
The two Maoists surrendered before the Malkangiri SP Mitrabhanu Mohapatra at the district headquarters office.
Briefing newsmen soon after their surrender, IG, south-western range, Yashwant Jethwa said the two Maoists—Dasuram and Dinesh—had worked in the cut off areas of the district since last three years and were involved in more than 23 incidents of violence, including the Padia block blast, attack on police in the cut-off areas, attack on the BSF post at MV-21 village, Gomphakunda landmine blast and murder in Silakota forest.
Stating that Dinesh was the bodyguard of the secretary of Malkangiri Divisional Committee, the IG said the duo was carrying a cash reward of Rs one lakh each on their head.
He said the two Maoists, during interrogation, told the police that they had decided to surrender as the Maoist leaders are indulged in indiscriminate killing and brutal torture of innocent tribals contrary to the Maoist ideologies.
Jethwa called upon other Maoists to surrender before the police at the earliest failing which the police would intensify joint operation against them with the Central force.
