Bhubaneswar, Jun 21:
Police today arrested two persons in connection with the murder of contractor Dillip Nayak at Patrapada on the outskirts of the Odisha capital on Thursday.
The two accused arrested today were identified as Sarat Kumar Samantaray (50) and Surya Kanta Samantray (20).
Police said that the two accused were associates of the mastermind of the crime Rajendra Barik and were present at the spot at the time of the murder.
However, police are yet to nab Barik and his brother who allegedly plotted the murder due to a tussle over construction of a private housing project. Though police have constituted several teams to nab Barik, he is yet to be traced.
On the other hand, family members of the deceased alleged that Barik enjoyed political patronage, which is causing the delay in his arrest.
“Barik is close to political leaders and was seen at several public functions with members of political parties. So we suspect that political persons are patronizing him, which is the main reason behind delay in his arrest,” said brother of the deceased Sanjay Nayak.
Notably, a 35-year-old contractor Dillip Nayak was shot dead by his rival group near a construction site behind the AIIMS Hospital in Patrapada under Khandagiri police station on June 18.
