Two abducted in Koraput, police rule out Maoist involvement

OST Bureau
Koraput, Jan 25:

Two persons have been abducted from Kechala village, under Lankaput panchayat in Koraput block, reports said.

Kechla village is located inside the Kolab reservoir and is accessible by boat or motor launch only,

Local sources said at 11 pm on Friday night, eight persons including three women whose faces were masked with black cloth had asked Sukant Satpathy and Chinmay Parida, the supervisor and librarian respectively of the local Auronir School to accompany them. They were told that there is an urgent meeting at Petaghat inside the Kolab reservoir. They took the village launch and leaft for Petaghat.

Worried families of both Satapathy and Parida reported the matter to the police on Saturday, after both did not return home.

Local people suspect this to be the handiwork of Maoists who are active in this area.

Police IG Jaswant Jethwa, however, ruled out the involvement of Maoists in the act and said according to information received so far the abductors are a gang of people with past criminal records.

He said three police teams are investigating into the matter and senior police officials were monitoring the search for the two abductees.
