To counter the cyclonic storm Hudhud which is moving closer to the Odisha-Andhra coast, the Twin city Commissionerate Police has prepared its personnel and drawn a road map to assist the people in need.
A meeting was convened for the purpose at the Commissionerate office headquarters here this evening. It was chaired by Commissioner Dr R P Sharma in the presence of Bhubaneswar and Cuttack DCPs, all ACPs and Inspectors.
The Commissioner highlighted the need for preparedness to meet the Cyclone Hudhud threat. He asserted that the preparations this time would be better this time than they were during the Phailin last year. Cleaning of roads and rescue operation will be given utmost priority. For this calamity, police forces will be deployed at all the police stations. ODRAF team are in readiness to face the challenge, he said.
Expecting power failure during the cyclone, police stations were directed to keep kerosene lamps, candles, extra batteries and emergency lights ready. He also directed all concerned IICs to store sufficient diesel and petrol in police stations and repair all police vehicles for smooth movement to meet all emergencies.
During cyclone time, all police officers and staffs will join their duty and their holidays would stabd cancelled. The commissionerate police have opened up a temporary control room to coordinate operations. The Commissioner has also directed police officials to possess sufficient food materials like biscuits, flattened rice and sugar in all police stations.
Tomorrow, the commissioner will discuss preparedness measures for the cyclone with Khordha district Collector and BMC officials, sources said.
