Kamakhyanagar: A 55-year-old man was crushed to death by an elephant at Kadalipala village in Kamakhyanagar area of Odisha’s Dhenkanal district today.
The deceased, identified as Gouranga Pallai, was present at the backyard of his house this morning when a tusker attacked him. The pachyderm tossed him up with its trunk and then trampled him to death on the spot.
Tension gripped the village after the mishap as irate locals staged road blockade alleging inaction on the part of Forest Department officials in chasing away elephants from the area.
On being informed, Forest officials reached the place and tried to pacify the villagers.
